Renewal of License

Renewals

There are three options regarding your renewal.

  1. If you are practicing social work and calling yourself a social worker, you will renew your license annually.  You will be notified 45 days before the end of your birth month that you are eligible to renew.  Renewals are done online.  On your "CEU Collection Cycle" renewal, you will upload the required CEUs as a part of your renewal.  See below for specific CEU information.
  2. If you are at least sixty (60) years of age and are NOT practicing social work, you can renew your license with the retirement exception.  This allows you to only complete the legislatively mandated CEUs (currently suicide prevention and cultural diversity, equity and inclusion).  You will be exempted from all other CEU requirements.  You will pay your renewal fee and your license remains "current."
  3. If you are NOT practicing social work in Nevada, you can request to put your license on
"Inactive Status."  This is an alternative to allowing your license to expire and give you up to five (5) years to reinstate your inactive license.  If you place your license on inactive status, you will no longer receive any communication from the Board and it will be automatically expired at the end of the fifth year.  You can "reactivate" your license by contacting the Board, submitting a "reactivation application" along with a collection cycle's worth of CEUs, new finger printing and a renewal fee.   You cannot select this option if you have an open / ongoing disciplinary investigation in any state.

You will be asked to select one of these options at your renewal.

Reminder:  If your renewal included CEUs, the Board requires seven (7) to ten (10) days to review the renewal. We are required to do a 100% audit of submitted CEUs and if you do not allow enough time for the review, your license may fall into "delinquent status."

Failing to Renew License in a Timely Manner

Nevada DOES NOT have a grace period on renewals.  If you fail to complete your renewal before the last day of your birth month, your license will automatically be placed on "delinquent status."  Your license will be placed on for a period of sixty (60) days and will then be automatically expired.  You will be notified by email, when your license is place on delinquent status. If your license becomes delinquent, you will be charged a $100.00 late fee with your renewal.

Even if you submitted your renewal in a timely way, if there are any problems with the renewal, you will be responsible for the "late fee" of $100.00.

      Continuing Education

Continuing education requirements are due bi-annually. You can verify your own license on our website to see if you are an "even year" or "odd year" collection cycle.  The verification will tell you when your CEUs are next due.
