• LSW and LASW    Must complete at least 30 continuing education hours every 2 years, of which, 2 hours must relate to ethics in the practice of social work and 10 hours must be in the field of practice of the licensee. [641B.187(1)(a)(1)(2), pgs. 22-23 of the Newly Adopted Regulations].

• LCSW and LISW    Must complete at least 36 continuing education hours every 2 years, of which, 3 hours must relate to ethics in the practice of social work and 12 hours must be in the field of practice of the licensee. [641B.187(1)(b)(1)(2), pg. 23 of the Newly Adopted Regulations].

• Waiver of Continuing Education Requirements    Upon the request of the licensee, the Board may waive the continuing education requirements of this section for a licensee who is at least 70 years of age and is retired from the practice of social work. [641B.187(3), pg. 23 of the Newly Adopted Regulations]. 

It is recommended that licensees maintain a copy of their license renewal application in order to determine when their continuing education hours are due. Licensees are not required to submit copies of their continuing education certificates unless requested by or audited by the Board.
